Closet Organization: The Right Way to Stack Your Shelves
Client Story: A Bride-to-be Meets Her New Custom Closet
Engaged bridal and fashion blogger, Liz and her fiancé, healthcare professional, Kenny recently bought a house that like many older homes, had small closets and little storage space. Although many people would pass on a house that didn’t have big closets, Liz and Kenny fell in love with their lovely renovated house. Determined to make it work, the couple knew one of their first priorities after moving in would be to improve upon their small master bedroom closet. Both fashion forward with shoe collections, they were faced with an organization problem of having to combine their extensive wardrobes into one reach-in closet in the master bedroom.
Without any shoe storage solutions or even a rod in the master bedroom closet, they temporarily stored their footwear on the floor and piled their extra clothing on the bed in the guest room. Kenny had a collection of baseball caps that much to Liz’s chagrin, appeared all around the house while Liz’s jewelry was tangled and unhappily housed in plastic bags. Knowing they needed help from a professional closet company as oppose to a DIY store bought kit, their contractor suggested Liz and Kenny meet with Sue Breitrose, a Closet Factory designer to see how she could design a custom closet to help them maximize their space, organize their accessories and create a space that can be shared by two people.
After hearing about their needs and measuring the space, Sue designed a simple but functional white melamine closet that featured adjustable double hanging rods so the couple could change their rods around to hang any length of clothing. The custom unit also has organizational elements like shelves that could be used as shoe shelves, house folded clothes or purses and drawers for assorted clothing. To personalize their closet system, Sue also added knobs to match the hardware in the house’s renovated bathrooms and clip-on shelf dividers to organize Liz’s purses. Much to Liz’s delight, she has a velvet lined, custom jewelry drawer where her untangled necklaces can be displayed and for Kenny, his baseball caps now reside in their own personal cubbies.
The couple is so happy with the results of their custom system, they are now thinking about what other storage solutions they can use in other parts of their home. In fact, as a bridal writer and soon to be bride herself, Liz thinks putting a custom closet on a bridal registry is a great idea! Just like donating to a newly married couple’s honeymoon, a custom closet makes a great, unique and unforgettable gift especially for people who already have all their household things.
